Max Planck Institute Offers PhD Scolarships

The International Max Planck Research School for Analysis, Design and Optimization in Chemical and Biochemical Process Engineering in Magdeburg (IMPRS) invites applications for
PhD positions

The IMPRS Magdeburg is a joint initiative of the Otto von GuerickeUniversity Magdeburg and the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics ofComplex Technical Systems Magdeburg.

At the interface of mathematics and engineering, the research projectsof the IMPRS Magdeburg focus on modeling technical and biologicalprocesses with emphasis on mathematical and systems theoretical orapplied and experimental aspects: to identify systems structuresto investigate process behaviorto design technical processes for specific tasksto experimentally characterize challenging technical processesto solve mathematical problems related to these technical applications

What we offerDepending on the qualification and personal situation the successfulcandidates will receive either a working contract (TVöD/L E13, fullposition) for 2 years plus 1 year of possible extension or ascholarship for 2 years plus 1 year of possible extension. Thescholarship is free of tax and social insurance.

Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities at the Max PlanckInstitute and the University of Magdeburg. A broad selection of basicand advanced lectures and seminars for education and trainingcompletes the Research School. Additionally, courses are offered oninformation literacy, scientific writing and presenting, and German asa foreign language.

What we expectWe are looking for outstanding young international and Germanscientists from engineering sciences as well as mathematics, biology,chemistry and physics.

The PhD students should hold an excellent recent university degreeequivalent to a Master or Diploma degree from a German university. Youshould bring motivation and interest to integrate into theinterdisciplinary character of research in the IMPRS. Good Englishlanguage skills are mandatory. In the communication they will have to confirm for which School and for which curriculum they want to enrol.

Successful candidates who do not confirm their choice within 7th December 2006 will be considered to have renounced their position.
